This design imagines a live work residence in which the occupant hosts private dining tasting menu experiences within their home. The idea of opening the privacy of the home and especially the kitchen – the heart of the home – to the community was intended to be expressed through the architecture of the project. This opening of the home is presented through an interpretation of a common architectural feature of the region, colloquially known as the “Lunenburg bump”. The glass structure intends to connect the square and community though a light well-cum-glass dormer. This glass dormer extends into the center of the residence linking to a light well that brings daylight to the chef when they are cooking. The overall from of the building is predicated on the context in which it is situated with respect to spacing between neighbors, the overall height, roof line, proportion, proximity to the street and materiality. Concerning the interior composition, the entire plan is organized around two stereotomic central hearth elements that contain all servant spaces
